Contact sheet from the Youth Olympiad Track and Field event held at Pitt Stadium. Honored guests Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens and Coach Carl Olson are featured throughout the shots. Owens was among the best track and field runners in the world at the time, breaking world records in sprints in College and in the Olympics. Carl Olson was an incredibly successful track and field coach both at the college and Olympic level. He was head coach of the University of Pittsburgh track and field team from 1932 to 1962. The remaining photos in the sheet show young contestants competing in races, the beginning ceremony of the event, and Jesse Owens giving a speech.
