Contact sheet from the kickoff luncheon hosted by Mayor Joseph M. Barr for Youth Olympiad. Mayor Barr can be seen throughout the photos posing with athletes, making speeches, and shaking hands with other officials and committee members for the event. It was at this event where The Youth Olympiad was announced. Over 300 of the city's top citizens attended the banquet, showing their desire to aid the city's recreational programs for youths. The men pictured in the top left group photo, from left to right: Robert Templeton, City Recreation Director; William Block, Publisher of the Post-Gazette; Jim Leonard, 1967 Youth Olympic broad Jumping Champion; Ed Fleming, professional basketball player and Pittsburgh native; and Mayor Barr.
