Description
Pricipal, 1819-1935; President, 1836-1843. Robert Bruce became the first principal of the Western University of Pennsylvania after the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania conferred university status upon the Pittsburg Academy in 1819. While Gilbert Morgan succeeded Bruce in 1835, Bruce returned a year later as president and remained until 1843.
