Clarence Clasper built this house on 833 Hulton Road prior to the Civil War, in about 1860. William G. Wade lived there from 1884 to 1915 and operated a residential finishing school for girls during that time. Helen Keller attended Wade's school in 1893 along with Anne Sullivan. Keller became a close acquaintance of the Wade family and visited often during the summer. Keller and Sullivan were also made honorary members of the Oakmont Women's Club.
