Description
Best Manufacturing Company, a pipe and fitting manufacturer, moved to Oakmont in 1910 and was located on College and Allegheny Avenue. George Best, the owner of the company, bought the land between California and Washington Avenues and built 28 houses in this area for employees of the plant. Mr. Best himself lived at 106 Washington Avenue in Oakmont. In 1916, the Best Manufacturing Plant was purchased by Edgewater Steel, which then took over the grounds. The water tower from Best Manufacturing Company and then Edgewater Steel is still visible from Allegheny River Blvd.
