Description
A typical residential alley in the Homestead area affected by the mill expansion of Carnegie-Illinois Steel Co. In order to provide sufficient area for a new Armor-Plate Mill, Carnegie-Illinois bought a huge area immediately adjoining their present mill facilities. Approximately 1650 families were moved from the Homestead area, 80% of which worked at either Carnegie-Illinois or Mesta Machine.
