The Full-Text Collection contains over 700 published works from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries that document Pittsburgh history. The collection provides a unique overview to local Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania history and explores the social issues, personalities, communities, religions, industries and landmarks that make up the history and the culture of the Pittsburgh region from the Colonial Period through World War II.

This year Pittsburgh celebrates its 250th anniversary of the naming of the city by General John Forbes. In 1758, shortly after taking possession of the abandoned remnants of French Fort Duquesne at the Point, Forbes named the city in honor of the English Prime Minister Sir William Pitt. In recognition, we are adding hundreds of newly digitized titles to the full-text collection throughout the year.
