The collection is arranged in its original order as maintained by the Frick Fine Arts Library. Some shifting of materials was done in order to place artists according to the Library of Congress Name Authority File. Series 1 contains folders of artists grouped alphabetically by last name. Series 2 consists of folders devoted to individual artists.
The Frick Fine Arts Library collected materials relating to individual artists in the Pittsburgh region, nationally, and some internationally. The majority of the materials were amassed after the library moved from the Cathedral of Learning to the new Frick Fine Arts Building in 1965.
