Description
The first portrait of Stalin, dated April 1, 1922, was drawn by Nikolai Andreev at the time of Stalin's appointment by Lenin to the the post of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, a position he was to keep for more than thirty years. The inscriptions on the portrait are by Stalin himself. They read: "This ear says that the artists is not well schooled in anatomy. J. Stalin"; "The ear screams and shouts against anatomy. J. S."
