The Pennsylvania Western was a journal edited by the students that were members of the Literary Societies of the Western University of Pennsylvania. It was published from 1882 to 1887, a period when the University was finally recovering from the effects of two destructive fires in 1845 and in 1849, the resulting suspension of operations from 1849 to 1854, and the difficult years of rebuilding.
The Pennsylvania Western contains some news of the University as well as essays by the Chancellor and various administrators and benefactors.
