Documenting Pitt:
Commencement Programs

This collection comprises the printed programs for the commencement exercises for the College of Arts and Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, now both called the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. At various time the programs include other Schools within the University which participated in the Arts and Sciences commencement exercise.

Commencement programs list the speakers and participants in the commencement exercise. The earliest programs sometimes did not list the graduates, but began doing so regularly by the 1890s.

This collection also includes some of the commencement exercises that took place at other times of the year besides the principal one in spring. When the University began hosting an ROTC program, the commencement programs also listed those students receiving their commissions.

Documenting Pitt contains the following programs: 1870, 1872, 1881, 1887-1888, 1895, 1898-1909, 1911-1913, and 1915-2010.
