ASC Adds Photographs from Charles Richardson

Pitt's Archives Service Center added the Charles Richardson Photographs to Historic Pittsburgh. An amateur photographer, Richardson captured these images between 1952-1954 shortly after arriving in Pittsburgh as a young man from Dallas, Tx. When not at work at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh, Richardson wandered the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas capturing quite striking shots of daily life in the "Steel City." Views include industrial scenes at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh and the U.S. Steel Company's Homestead Works. He shot street scenes in the neighborhoods of Downtown, the Hill District, Polish Hill, Squirrel Hill, and the Southside. According to Richardson, only the 46 images presented online were kept over the years, believing they best represented "some of the best days of Pittsburgh."
