Description
David killing a lion. On the front of the capital, a figure is sitting on the back of a lion, holding its jaws open with its hands. The figure wears a short garment and a short cloak that flies out behind it ( as in the Eustace figure in capital 17) The lion has one of its front paws on the head of a sheep which crouches on the left side of the capital. On the right side of the capital is a figure with a club (barely visible) Most scholars identify this scene as David killing a lion (I Samuel, Chapter 17, verses 34-6 In the background are foliage and grape vines.
