Description
Old Testament theme: Noah builds the Ark See Genesis 6:14-22 On the left side of the front face of the capital, a bearded Noah holds a short ax in both hands as he cuts a branch from a tree with a thick trunk at the center of the capital. Above the tree trunk is a small structure constructed of a frame with walls woven with a basket-like texture. It has a peaked roof. At right, a young person (variously identified as a son or a wife of Noah) stands on the ground and leans into the structure, looking through a window with its fingers on the sill. The figure appears to have an ax in its belt. Porée thinks the structure might be a hut build by Noah after the Flood had receded. Salet: Number 81 Location: Upper clerestory of vessel of nave. South side. Third pier from the West
