Description
This 1918 photograph shows the interior to the east.
In it the elevation of the central vessel of the nave is clearly visible The two levels of the nave elevation are separated by a stringcourse. On the arcade level, each bay contains a single round arch. The bays are separated by a compound pier with applied collonettes which extend upwards to the springing point of the arch. The piers continue upwards to divide the bays in the clerestory. Each bay of the clerestory contains a single rounded window with a splayed sill. At the springingpoint of the vaults is another set of decorated capitals.
Also visible is the nave vault, with the bays separated by arches with polychrome voussoirs alternating cream and brown. Some of this variation is from the original, natural stone, and some is from paint applied to the arches which were restored in the mid 1800's (Murphy, p 112)
