Description
Longitudinal cross section of narthex and first two bays of nave looking north.
The narthex (left) has a central vessel with an aisle one each side. The aisles have a gallery above them- in the easternmost bay, this gallery extends across the narthex from north to south. The bays are separated by compound piers with attached collonettes. The arcade level has a single pointed arch in each bay, with relatively plain molding. Above it, each bay of the gallery has a colonnade with four arched openings separated by small columns.
The nave also has a central vessel with an aisle on each side. However, there is no gallery above the aisle . The central vessel's upper walls are the exterior wall of the church. The two levels of the nave elevation are separated by a stringcourse. On the arcade level, each bay contains a single round arch. The bays are separated by a compound pier with applied collonettes which extend upwards to the springing point of the arch. The piers continue upwards to divide the bays in the clerestory. Each bay of the clerestory contains a single rounded window with a splayed sill.
