Description
This is the first compartment from the bottom on the right side of the inner archivolt of the central tympanum. It contains two seated figures writing. The two figures are seated on a rectangular object with arched openings in it (a bench?) They face the viewer- their heads and hands are missing. They are barefoot and wear long, flowing garments with many small folds. Each holds a portable writing desk on its knees, the figure on the left holds a long object in its right hand which appears to be a writing implement.
Turret sees the figures as scribes, Aubert suggest they are scribes writing down the sermons of the apostles and Salet suggests they are apostles (175) Mauyeus suggests they are Sts. John and Malachi
