Description
At left, a nude figure wearing a conical hat (not visible in this image ) rides a dragon with a serpent's tail. He throws a heavy object at a crowned female figure with the body of a cow (right). She appears to be hurling a round object at him. Behind her is a long, thin, curled object that may be a serpent or a vine.
Though Salet calls this a "fantastic combat", other scholars see it as a scene from the New Testament Apocalypse. Terret has suggested that the female figure represents Babylon fighting the champion of God. (Revelations XVII 4-5) Despiney identifies the scene with the Dragon of the Apocalypse fighting the Scarlet Woman.
