MODERN.
Panel 12. The Construction of the Cathedral: Working with Stones.
Several men in short garments work with blocks of stone. In the foreground a man appears to be rolling a block. At his feet is an object that may be a mason's or carpenter's square. Behind him at left, another man ascends a ladder carrying what may be a container of mortar. At right two bare-chested men carrying blocks of stone on their shoulders. On the far left and right are other workers.
An early description by Pintard shows that the original subject of this panel was quite different from that in this replacement, which was made in 1928 (Delaporte, p. 193).
