Panel 20. The Display and Veneration of Relics: Beginning of the Procession
At right is a cleric reading an open book as he walks toward the right. To the left, moving in the same direction is a cleric holding a processional cross and wearing white garments similar to the men carrying the relics in panel 19. In the foreground, three people kneel, their hands raised in gestures of prayer. In the background, two standing figures look on (one of them is a woman).
An early description by Pintard shows that the original subject of this panel was quite different from that in this replacement, which was made in 1928 (Delaporte, p. 193).
Panels 17-21 form a single composition showing the Display and Adoration of Relics.
