Life of Nicholas Window
Delaporte no. 60, Deremble-Manhes no. 39
Panel 5: Donor: merchants
In the foreground is a large counter which is parallel to the plane of the panel. It is supported by elaborate columns. Above it is tall rack that extends the length of the counter and the height of the panel. A curtain hangs from its apex. From a lower bar hang two long objects that are very similar to the belts in panel 3, and two other objects which Delaporte believed to be wallets. Two bare-headed men stand behind the counter, facing one another. The one at right, who has curly blond hair (or a strange hat), weighs something in a scale. The man at left extends his hand toward the other figure. On the counter is a cloth, a cup (?) and a container (basket?) holding small red round objects.
It is not clear whether the donors are grocers, apothecaries, or haberdashers. Delaporte points out that the same merchant could sell groceries, medicines, and articles of clothing.
