Description
South Porch- Left Portal
Gable - General View
On each side of the gable are standing statues in aediculae. At left is a single figure, at right, a group of three. Houvet (p.13) says that these figures are a continuation of the ancestors of Christ series which began on the upper level of the western side of the South Porch.
At the top of the outer porch is a gable with a seated female figure flanked by angels. According to Houvet, the seated figure is Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary, holding a lily in a vase. One either side, angels emerge from clouds. The one at left holds a scroll and the one at right holds a rod-like object (a scepter? a herald's staff?)
On the outermost archivolt below are standing angels holding candlesticks.
