Panel 4: The Annunciation to Joachim.
Distraught over the rejection of his sacrifice, Joachim went to the fields and tended sheep. He prayed for a child, and an angel appeared to tell him that Anne would bear a daughter who would be the mother of the Messiah.
The angel appears at top left. Joachim (bearded, no halo) stands at right, raising one of his hands toward the angel and holding a shepherds crook in the other. At lower left are two sheep amid stylized landscape and foliage forms.
