Panel 21: Pantaleon before Maximian
Both Delaporte and Manhes-Deremble think this is a scene in which Maximien interrogates Pantaleon about how he came to the Christian faith. Pantaleon tells him about the priest Hermolaus.
At left Emperor Maximien (crowned) sits on elaborate throne with a footstool. He looks and gestures toward Pantaleon (haloed, tonsured) who stands at center. Pantaleon raises one of his hands toward the Emperor, in the other, he holds a book. At right is a man, probably one of Pantaleon’s torturers.
