Description
The Infancy of Christ Window
Delaporte no. 2, Deremble-Manhes no. 50
Panel 17- The Fall of the Idols
According to the apocryphal Infancy Gospel, idols in temples fell to the ground when the Holy Family passed on their way to Egypt.
The scene takes palace in an architectural interior. Above are the roofs and towers (of a pagan temple? A city?) and at the bottom of the panel are crenellated ramparts. The idols are in two arched openings separated by two columns with carved capitals. The idols are small golden figures- one is a nude male and the other is clothed. Both are falling from the short pedestals in the form of columns. Hanging above them from the arches are unlit lamps.
