The Sacrifice of Isaac (Genesis 22:6-13)
Abraham (haloed, bearded) prepares to kill his son Isaac, who stands in front of his father. The child's hands and feet are tied, and his chin is cupped in his father's hand. Abraham holds the handle of a knife- the blade has been lost.
