At right stands Emperor Maximien (crowned, holding a scepter) His hand pulls at the fastening of his mantle, a gesture associated with the upper class. At right stands a man wearing a voluminous mantle with a hood. Both look toward the left perhaps at panel 19 (The wheel of torture breaks).
