Panel 14: Gad, the King’s brother, dies
Panels 14-6 show the episode of the death and resurrection of King Gundophorus’ brother Gad.
Before this episode began, Gundophorus, King of India, had imprisoned Thomas for giving alms and building churches with funds intended for the construction of a royal palace. This panel shows the death of Gad.
Gad lies in a bed that is in the left foreground of the panel. His torso is naked; the rest of his body is covered with a blanket. Hi soul (a small, nude figure) issues from his open mouth and is received by an angel in the upper part of the panel. Behind and to the right of the bed are three men who gesture (in grief?). At the extreme right is a doorway.
