Nicholas raises three murdered boys
In this famous miracle, an innkeeper meets three young scholars and takes them to his inn. The innkeeper and his wife slay the three youths and throw their bodies in a barrel. St. Nicholas raises them from the dead. This story was dramatized in the liturgical play Tres Clergi which probably was performed at Chartres.
At right, Nicholas stands (haloed, with mitre and crosier) i. The three young men emerge from a box at left. . They are nude and are quite small- they appear to be children rather than young men.
