Description
The Miracles of the Virgin Window
Delaporte no. 9, Deremble-Manhes no. 38
Panel 15: Two men (Theophilus and the Jewish Sorcerer?)
At left, a man in a pointed “Jew’s cap” raises his hands to a man seated at right. The seated man holds a long rod with a flame-shaped finial.
Much of this panel is restoration glass so it is hard to interpret. However, Delaporte quotes a sermon by Bishop Fulbert, (p. 194) which describes how a cleric Theophilus made a pact with a Jewish sorcerer to sell his soul.
