Heimann identifies this as an “angel carrying a soul in a cloth and trampling a demon underfoot, while a second angel rushes headlong to attack this demon” (Heimann, p. 90) She relates it to the scene on the frieze above, of the Maries at the tomb, which she links to Christ’s triumph over death.
