Panel 20- The Return from Egypt (Matthew 2:21-23)
This panel and panel 20 form a two-panel scene of the Return of the Holy Family from Egypt.
Joseph (Jew’s hat, no halo) stands at left holding a rod with an object (a water gourd?) hanging from it. He leads the donkey on which sit Mary and the infant Christ (both haloed). Around them are stylized plants. Christ raises a hand.
