Panel 19: Sacrifice of Isaac (Genesis 22:1-3)
At left stands the child Isaac, carrying two crossed bundles of wood on his shoulders. At right stands Abraham (haloed, inscription ABRAHAN) standing in front of an altar to the far right. He carries a lighted torch, holds a long object (a knife? a sword?), and looks back over his shoulder at Isaac.
Isaac carrying the wood was interpreted as a prefiguration of Christ carrying the cross.
