Lintel Right- The Damned
At the top of the lintel, angels emerge from a layer of clouds. Houvet says they are forcing the damned toward Hell with swords and shields. At right are the Damned. standing in two rows. The figures in the back row mostly are looking upward toward the angels From left to right In the front row of the damned are 1) a tonsured monk wearing his habit, 2) a woman in fashionable 13th century garments, including a barbette (chin strap) and a tourette (flat tart-shaped hat), 3) a bishop or archbishop wearing a mitre and 4) a bearded man wearing a crown and 5) a miser with his moneybag fastened around his neck.
At the extreme right is the Mouth of Hell. It is a huge creature with hair and teeth of fire. Several grinning demons force the naked souls of the Damned into the Hell Mouth.
