Panel 04- Annunciation to the Shepherds (Luke 2:8-20)
At the top of the panel, two angels (with halos) emerge from the clouds to announce the birth of Christ to three shepherds. The shepherds are bareheaded and beardless, carry shepherds’ crooks, and are accompanied by two dogs. The one at left has a pouch suspended from a strap over his shoulder. The shepherd at right sits on a stylized hill or mountain.
