Panel 21: The Sacrifice of Isaac (Genesis 22:6-13)
Abraham (haloed, inscription ABRAHAN) stands at center, preparing to kill his son Isaac, who lies, bound, on an altar at right. In front of the altar are the crossed bundles of wood that Isaac had carried to burn the sacrificial offering. The sword (knife?) that Abraham is about to use is seized from above by an angel (haloed) who reaches down from a cloud in the upper left corner of the panel. The angel holds a scroll (?). Below the angel is a ram caught in a bush, which was to be sacrificed instead of Isaac.
