Description
South Porch, Central Portal (Last Judgment Portal)
Trumeau- Detail of Base
At left stands a clean-shaven male in a short tunic. At right are man and a woman giving alms; these two figures are carved on a much larger scale than the standing figure. The woman wears fashionable 13th century garments, including a barbette (chin strap) and a tourette (flat tart-shaped hat). The seated figures are often supposed to be Peter Mauclerc, the Count of Dreux and his wife, Alix. The standing figure at left may be a servant or the son of the Mauclercs. See Williams for a discussion of these figures.
