Description
North Porch, Central Portal; Outer Porch- Upper, Seated King
In the gable in the outer porch, to the upper right of the central door is the seated figure of a bearded, crowned man. He makes an empathetic gesture.
To the right are two figures on the outer archivolt of the right portal.
Personification of Winter (Left)
Houvet suggests the heavily clothed, bearded old man is the personification of Winter. He describes the man as "covered with snow." The man holds one of his shoes in his hand, to better warm his foot t0 the fire that burns below him. There is an unidentified object in the flames.
Personification of January - Man with Two Faces (Right)
A double-faced man sits in a chair with a curved back. Each of his faces is in profile, one with a beard, one without (not visible).
