Vincent, a Spaniard of noble birth, was ordained as a deacon by Bishop Valerius of Saragossa. He was martyred under the Roman Emperor Diocletian in 304. He is depicted as a beardless young man with a halo. holding a book. He wears the vestments of a deacon (amice and dalmatic).
