Description
North Porch, Central Portal, Left Jambs: David
Old Testament King David(bearded, haloed, crowned) holding a lance. Katzenellenbogen believes he also held the Crown of Thorns and nails from the Crucifixion. David was thought to have predicted the Passion of Christ in Psalm 21. Kidson noted the dual nature of David- that he could be regarded either as a king or as a prophet of the Crucifixion (in Psalm 33). Kidson believes that in this instance, David is regarded more as a prophet than a king (Kidson, p. 34).
