Panels 27-9 together may represent a story later related in the Golden Legend. In it, Julian aids a poor sick pilgrim by ferrying him across a river on a stormy night. The pilgrim was later revealed to be Christ (in some versions of the legend, an angel).
Christ (crossed Halo) stands at left. At right, an angel swings a censer.
