Biographical Sketch of Frederick Theodore Wagner (1870-1956)
Little is known about Frederick Theodore Wagner. Wagner was a photographer in Pittsburgh who began taking pictures in the early 1900s. He was born in Pittsburgh to August and Elizabeth Wagner who emigrated from Germany. He worked for the railroads.
F. Theodore Wagner married Elizabeth Margaret Smith (Margaret) on December 8, 1900. They had four children, Marguerite, Theodore, John, and Elizabeth before Margaret died in 1910. Theodore then remarried Anna Elizabeth Smith (Lizzie) and had two more children, August and Robert. He died in Wayne, PA on October 22, 1956..
Collection Scope and Content Note
The F. Theodore Wagner Papers are housed in three archival boxes and are arranged alphabetically by folder title. These papers include Wagner's record books of photographs taken, catalogues for photographic equipment, photographic supplies, and Rand McNally maps. The strength of this collection is the Negative record book and the Plate holder record book where Wagner recorded the photographs he took, the dates taken, and the subject. The other photographic materials are either the supplies used or supply catalogues and handbooks. The Rand McNally maps are for the 24 states from Nebraska to the end of the alphabet.
