History

Throughout its history the University of Pittsburgh has received occasional support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In the early 1960's it suffered an unprecedented fiscal crisis and sought a solution that linked it to the Commonwealth. On August 23, 1966, House Bill No. 2 of the General Assembly of Pennsylvania was signed and the University officially became state-related.
