History
Benjamin F. Jones purchased a share in American Iron Works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1851. Later, he was joined by James H. Laughlin to form what would become J&L Steel in 1861. Their mills included facilities in Hazelwood, south side Pittsburgh, and Aliquippa and were a competitor of Carnegie Steel Company. In 1974, Ling-Temco-Vought purchased Jones and Laughlin Corporation as part of LTV Steel and all production facilities were closed in 1989.

This collection contains information regarding Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation stockholders’ meetings. Included are correspondence, proxy votes, and lists of company stockholders. Drawings and correspondence regarding permits from the United States War Department are present, as well as ledgers detailing product and sales reports.
