Collection Scope and Content Notes


Memberships is comprised of mimeograph circular letters to the Fort Wayne Branch form the National Office of the CPO Communist Party (Opposition), ICLL Independent Communist Labor League ,and ILLA Independent Labor League of America, all versions of the Communist Party in the United States during the 1930s. Materials concern state conventions, recruiting drives, national training schools and summer labor institutes, booklists and correspondence from the Literature Departments of the CPO and ICLL. There are also announcements and coordination efforts for speakers' tours, as well as 1937 reports on the Spanish Civil War. Other circulars that deal with similar Communist groups in Europe relate to the International Communist Opposition and anti-fascist refugee relief appeals. From 1939, there are circular letters and committee reports for the YCAW Youth Committee Against the War. There are also program materials from the National Youth War Congress in Chicago in 1939. A mimeographed songbook contains Songs from a Warless World. The series concludes with constitutions, resolutions and statements from 1934 to 1936 from the CPO, ICO, and ILLA. Small documents, such as membership cards are placed in their own Folder 21.
