Subseries 4. Frick Building Rent Issues, 1900-1951

Scope and Content Notes: The Rent Issues subseries contains information on rental matters for the Frick Building, Frick Building Annex, Union Arcade, and other miscellaneous properties from 1900 to 1951. The majority of the records are schedules, statements, bills, leases, notices, and receipts that relate to John E. Shaw building renting agency. However, rental records after the 1950s were mostly handled by the assistant renting agent, Mr. V.R. Calpas. A large part of the material consists in this subseries is comprised of “Rent and Services” documents including rent schedules for both the Frick Building and Annex as well as statements and bills pertaining to other various properties. These schedules provide monthly and annual rental cost for each floor and room. There are also leases for the Frick Building, but only for the years of 1908 to the 1920s and again for 1950s. The folders labeled “composition of balance account” includes tenant accounts, and is arranged chronologically. The remaining material pertains to delinquent rent, rent increases, receipts, balances, and land lord sale. The land lord sale is when the land lord sells off the tenant office furnishings to cover the delinquent rent. These materials include correspondence, statements, item lists, and bill of sale. The materials in subseries date from 1900 to 1951.
