Series IV. Professional Associations, 1945-1976

Scope and Content Notes:

This series covers the multitude of professional and personal associations that Smuts was involved with throughout his life. It contains newsletters, by-laws, correspondence, and speeches. Of special note are the files on the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation, which includes flyers, memorandums, correspondence, handwritten notes, and newsletters. Smuts also taught Urban Studies classes at both Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the University of Pittsburgh; this folder contains the syllabus, correspondence, list of textbooks, presentation slides and notes. Smuts was also actively involved with the CMU Alumni Association, which is documented in a single folder of photographs, committee reports, executive board meeting notes, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings.
