Members of Pittsburgh area communities created the Steel Valley Authority (SVA) in an effort to stop steel mill closings and the loss of jobs in the region. The founding meeting was in 1986, and the SVA still active today. This series includes meeting minutes and committee and staff reports. It also documents the activities and the publications of the SVA. There are also records on the effort to save South Side Electrics, including reports and information on the committees that were created to help save the electric furnace and newspaper clippings.
Documents on City Pride Bakery, previously the Braun Bakery, are also present. City Pride was a worker-operated company created in 1989 after Braun Bakery was closed. Included is information on the City Pride business plan, operation and eventual closure in 1994.
