Collection Inventory

Series I. Scrapbooks

Scope and Content Notes:

This series includes four scrapbooks. Scrapbook 1 (1908-1958) contains the Four Evans CV, press information, a hand-written family history, press photographs, production stills, and marquee photographs; Scapbook 2 (1942-1967) contains newspaper clippings, programs, awards, USO correspondence, press photographs, production stills, and marquee photographs; Scrapbook 3 (1944-1948) contains newspaper clippings and correspondence; Scrapbook 4 (1934-1936) contains miscellaneous pages of newspaper clippings similar to those found in the other scrapbooks, but of a different format. All scrapbooks have been disbound for press purposes and placed in folders. Arrangement reflects the order of the original scrapbooks created by the Evans family. Dates for each scrapbook were determined by notation on individual items, and may not reflect undated items.

Series II. Clippings

Scope and Content Notes:

This series includes newspaper reviews, articles, and display ads. Display ads are the advertisements placed by the theatres to promote daily or weekly events. Folders 1-3 contain clippings estimated to date from 1946-1960. Preservation photocopies have been made for use by researchers.

Series III. Correspondence

Scope and Content Notes:

This series includes travel documents, itinerary, letters of thanks, and general correspondence. FF 6 contains correspondence dated 1944-1961 to the Evans family (Lester and Maryetta) on behalf of the United States Army, the Military Transport Service, the American Red Cross, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. FF7 contains correspondence dated 1962-1981 to Lester and Maryetta on behalf of Point Park College, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and the Homebuilders. FF8 contains undated correspondence to Lester and Maryetta included In-Flight Progress reports, personal cards, and silhouettes of Lester and Maryetta by fan Noel Wisdom.

This series contains programs and publications from USO and Professional performances featuring the Four Evans.

Series V. Ephemera

Scope and Content Notes:

This series contains awards, souveniers, and memorabilia from the career of the "Four Evans." FF12 contains souveniers from the USO tours. Oversize materials consist of 3 posters advertising the "Four Evans," and in tact newspapers collected by the Evans family from 1943-1954.
