Series I. Office Files, 1991-2010

Scope and Content Notes:

This series contains the office files of the Marilyn Horne Foundation. It is divided into eight subseries containing materials on the artists who performed for the foundation, Board of Trustees meetings, development files, budget and financial materials, general office files, marketing files, and finally there are two subseries on the numerous residency programs that the foundation sponsored nationally and in the New York City area. Some of these subseries are broken down into smaller sections.

Subseries 1. Artists, 1991-2010

Scope and Content Notes:

The Artists subseries is divided into two sections: Pianists and Vocal Artists. Each contains folders for individual performers that were contracted for performance by the Marilyn Horne Foundation and includes contracts, programs, photographs, newspaper clippings, and correspondence. The folders are arranged alphabetically by the artist's last name.

The Marketing subseries contains a variety of materials that were used to promote the Foundation and its' efforts including informational pamphlets, materials mailed to members, newspaper clippings, etc. The files are arranged in alphabetical order. The Marilyn Horne Foundation sponsored residencies for artists all over the country. Young artists were featured in an educational program, which was followed by a recital for pre-college students. This subseries is arranged alphabetically by name. Scope and Content Notes:

The Music Academy of the West is an institution which, like the Marilyn Horne Foundation, is committed to the development of the next generation of classical musicians. Marilyn Horne, who studied under Lotte Lehmann at the Academy as a teenager, accepted the position of Voice Program Director in 1997 and consequently the two groups have been in close collaboration ever since. This subseries contains materials for each of the Music Academy of the West's Summer Festivals between 1997 and 2009. Each year's folders contain correspondence, financial papers, reviews, advertising, programs, and other materials.

Scope and Content Notes:

There were over 200 audio recordings that were donated to the Curtis Collection along with the Foundation's records. All of these recordings were not available commercially. Most of these recordings are on CDs, but a small amount are on audio cassettes. There are also nearly 150 video recordings on DVD, VHS, Mini DV, and Beta SP. These materials are currently being processed. For inquires into these materials please contact the Special Collections staff.
